Crime & Insecurity Everywhere

There has been an increase dimension in the pattern and trend of crime and other forms of insecurity in Nigeria on a geometric rate which constitutes serious threat to lives and properties, hinders business activities and discourages local and foreign investors.

The rising wave of violent crime if not properly checked could become a threat to socio-economic development of the country.

The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria specifically states that “The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”. However, the government has failed to provide a secured and safe environment for lives, properties and the conduct of economic activities. The rate of increase in criminal activities in Nigeria is alarming.

This is exacerbated by the normalization of criminal elements in law enforcement.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have been known to unleash criminal activities on the citizen that they were sworn to protect. A nation-wide protest, #EndSARS is calling for the dissolution of these criminal division of Nigerians law enforcement.
