The British government’s statement announcing the restrictions stated that “These elections are important, both as an essential element of effective governance within both states and an indicator of the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.”

To attract foreign investment in Nigeria energy, transport and digital infrastructure, the international community the political risk as a function of a stable democracy needs to be minimal.
The United States has stated that it wants to help Nigeria “end corruption and strengthen democracy, accountability, and respect for human rights”. But it is imperative that Nigeria has right leadership to allow for these growth opportunities to manifest.
